Submit ReviewGSK 2879552 is a selective lysine-specific demethylase 1 (LSD1) inhibitor. When combined with other small molecules (EPZ-5676, N-methyl-d-aspartate and Bay K 8644), GSK 2879552 accelerates maturation of human pluripotent stem cell-derived neurons. GSK 2879552 inhibits the growth of small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) and AML lines. In vivo, GSK 2879552 (1.5 mg/kg, p.o.) demonstrates tumor growth inhibition in SCLC xenograph mouse models.

Written by Susanne Müller-Knapp and Peter J. Brown, this review gives an overview of the development of chemical probes for epigenetic targets, as well as the impact of these tool compounds being made available to the scientific community. In addition, their biological effects are also discussed. Epigenetic compounds available from Tocris are listed.
