The Hedgehog (Hh) signaling pathway is important in the regulation of several developmental processes. It controls morphogenesis of organs and tissues in the embryo and the proliferation of stem cells in adult tissues. Disruption of Hh pathways in the embryo can result in severe developmental disorders, or cancer in adults. The mammalian Hh pathway is depicted here.
