I3 Receptors

Supporting information

Imidazoline 3 receptors (I3) are members of the imidazoline family of receptors, which also include I1 (labeled by clonidine) and I2 (labeled by idazoxan). I3 receptors are located in the pancreatic β-cells and are able to stimulate insulin secretion in a glucose-dependent manner. This is accompanied by inhibition of ATP-sensitive K+ channels.

Little is known about the transduction mechanism of I3 receptors and the gene encoding it has not yet been characterized.
