Serotonin 5-HT2C receptors, previously known as 5-HT1C receptors, are located primarily in the choroid plexus, cortex, limbic system and basal ganglia. 5-HT2C receptors play a role in CSF volume regulation, thermoregulation, penile erection and anxiety. The human 5-HT2C receptor gene has been localized to chromosome X (Xq24).
