Thyrotropin-Releasing Hormone Receptors

Thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) receptors are Gq/11-protein-coupled receptors that promote thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and prolactin (PRL) release. Two TRH receptor subtypes, TRH1 and TRH2, have been identified in rodents, but only the TRH1 receptor has been found in humans. TRH1 is predominantly expressed in the anterior pituitary gland, but is also found at appreciable levels in the brain, pancreas, testis, adrenals and lymphoid organs. The human gene encoding the TRH1 receptor is located on chromosome 8q23.1.
